Sometimes I wonder if even Apple and Google are Apple and Google :)

Maybe they should try to make movies out of Katherine kerrs books they are both good reads and has varied genders (if I remember correctly). Buzzz

Thing is that here in europe/sweden steam is always the most expensive choice sine must publishers equals 1 usd to 1 eur. So here the only sane reason is to wait until they have sales since then it is just expensive and not overly expensive.

//Anders

That's because 1 USD plus VAT pretty much 3 equals 1 EUR. USA has sales tax which is not added to the price, it only shows up on the receipt.

Still more expensive than to pop down to game stop and buy a new one.

also, median sales tax in the US is around 9.5% (all-inclusive)

One problem is that cobol is not that standard many uses proprietary extensions for cics and xml and all sorts of stuff that may not be available on the microfocus platform.

Scoble seems to be pretty open with such things so why just not ask him?

There always seems to be noise around the networks he's on. Also, this wasn't just about Scoble rather than having him as an example to try and understand Google+'s content strategy.

How does the cost of light usages like this compares to aws?

To be honest, I couldn't tell you-- for the amount of usage that I have on it, it's a flat $20/mo, and I believe I have something like 20G of HD space and 200G of bandwidth, which I've never come close to using up (it's amazing how small your OS is when you're not running a gui).

The really nice thing, imo, is the fact that you can pay a couple bucks per month piecemeal to increase any one stat of the machine as you need it.

Anyone who has a good plugin for html/javascript? Tried a couple but noone seems to support the mix of html and javascript in the same file :(.

Pretty cool, now we only need to bring hw accel to linux and firefox :). My main browser will allways be a open one since we really shouldnt trust corporations in keeping the we open.

//Anders

All the other browser already have hw acceleration in various stages in their "preview" builds, in released builds to some extent too.

But not on linux/*bsd right? Guess you have to have a quite new mac for that too ( my 2008 Macbook wount cut it I guess :( )

Depends which browser/feature you're talking about. The WebGL stuff I believe is hardware accelerated in Linux Firefox, but some of the video stuff is Windows only for now and some other stuff is Vista & Windows7 only currently.

For the Mac are you talking about H.264 acceleration? Apple have historically not exposed the hardware acceleration features of the graphics cards they shipped, often not even using it themselves and just using software decode. They've changed this recently by making use of some (but not all) of the Nvidia (but not ATI) decode capabilities but it's not the hardware that's missing for many older devices, it's access to the hardware that only Apple can provide. These capabilities are accessible if you're running Windows or Linux on that same hardware.

Why not just make an API and let the community add the codec?

//Anders

Because then you get sites that say "to view this free porn, just install our custom codec", and of course the codec is malware.

Silverlight 3 does that: http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted/silverlight3/ "With the new Raw AV pipeline, Silverlight can easily support a wide variety of third-party codecs. Audio and video can be decoded outside the runtime and rendered in Silverlight, extending format support beyond the native codecs. "

Wonder how long linux or *bsd would survive? Are they easier or harder than mac os x?
