It sees it poorly. IR is deliberately (though imperfectly) filtered in the optical path.

It doesn't have to be that way, but it usually is that way anyway -- as a design intent.

Cameras used for surveillance, meanwhile, often lack these filters. They're designed with more of a focus on getting any kind of image at all, including when working with infrared illuminators in the absence of visible light. Some even have mechanical elements that move filters out of the optical path for night mode.

This differs tremendously in comparison to a camera that is designed to produce very beautiful visible-light photographs.

(This all conspires to mean that IR is kind of a non-starter for this sort of cell phone camera hack.)

That was true years ago, but I haven't been able to use an iPhone camera to pick up an IR signal in a long time. Just tested it to be sure they hadn't reverted to an unfiltered lens (17 pro) and nope, no IR visible.

Try the selfie (aka front-facing) camera; often they are not equipped with an IR filter.

I pointed at the remote of my fan and I can see it. I am on 15 Pro. However, as the sibling comment said, it is very faint so I'd guess not very realistic.

You may not get ads in the app, but they can still sell your data for other services who will give you ads.

You WILL be getting ads in the app, though. There's nothing in the article that says you won't. This is like Snapchat's subscription. You get more features, but still have the ads. This isn't replacing "if it's free, you're the product", it's "if you're willing to pay, you're an even more valuable product".

Don't they already have some subscription to get rid of ads?

In some countries, but not everywhere. I know it exists in the UK, maybe EU as well.

I can't read the article because it blocks me. But I see all the actual search results. Just the AI part says "Got it! Message disregarded. Let me know if you need help with anything else." and shows half a blank screen.

EDIT: I guess if you're on a smaller screen you don't see the search results on the bottom because of the AI answer blank space.

Oh yes.... you are quite right... My fully page on my monitor was blank except the message you quoted.. but if i scroll down I do see the results.

I recently switched to a carrier (Fido/Rogers in Canada). My plan limits hotspot by disabling the hotspot settings on ios. However, I was able to enable it again by changing the access point name.

Did you give it an email tool? It uses the tool it’s given. HF example only has timer tool.
