I know it says "everyone", but for any male: a top quality shaving cream to try for while. I used to think Edge, Barbasol, etc was good enough and the boutique ones were for snobs and no difference. Then I tried a few. Like night and day difference in closeness and after shaving comfort. You will not go back.
Not even that expensive considering you can use less per shave because of the quality. The two best I have ever used are both fairly affordable and don't even need a bowl/brush:
When you're ready to go the next step, a safety razor will go a long ways towards a better, less irritating shave as well. 6¢ blades mean you're not as inclined to use them past getting dull, less plastic waste, and a stupidly close shave.
For years all of this was in the back of my mind as being capable but my not wanting to think like a conspiracy crackpot just dismissed the thought as it couldn't be possible. A conspiracy takes a lot of co-operation from within large corporations who must also remain it a secret. Surely someone would have a conscious and leak it? Or one of companies we all look up to as a modern example of do-good company would say "Hell NO" to the attempt and then let the world know what was attempted. Guess that was eventually proven true with Snowden (a real hero imo), just shocked they were able to operate to the scale they did for so long before a Snowden came along.
In my mind, this is not so much a shock to me regarding the NSA as well as the current evil government we have had in place. Doesn't take a genius to realize the president lies to our face on TV about trivial issues/promises, so expected for top secret stuff.
What is the BIG stomach churning shock to me is the very companies that we have come to know that are multi-billion dollar conglomerates providing service/products for millions for every day use has been a part of it. A part of this secret web while all the while proclaiming privacy for it users. I guess at end of day profits still rule the roost. "Just do this for us, turn a blind eye, and you get to go on making your billions". I wonder how many CEO's knew of all this. Gates? Zuckerburg? Etc etc.
I feel like I have no outs now. There are no alternatives to current establishment of companies that make our lives easier. Should we all wipe our PC's and use Linux, sell our phones and use Ubuntu Phone, not pay for SSL certs anymore (another mafia), etc?
I am really surprised in all these Google Reader threads I have not seen mention of the free, self-hosted and perfectly simple RSSLounge. I been using it for three years now and even donated.
Development has stalled on this one though but the developer has a new RSS project with more social stuff. It is called Selfoss and is at http://selfoss.aditu.de/ .
I have been a big fan of and user of Opera since it had banner ads in the free version. It has been a long time as my preferred default browser for home and work PC's. I'd even have it on my iPad if I could.
But when I first heard this rumor over the weekend I felt in shock (and sick). I hate Facebook along with its smug a-hole founder. Never even had an account (although I do feel I missed out on some old connections and such but refused to be a part of FB). From a business standpoint I guess it makes sense. FB would get a mature, fast and feature rich browser (One they could data mine to no end, including emails).
But the very last version of Opera that was released, shall this buyout happen, will also be the last version I ever use. Opera has a very clear and good privacy statement. I trust Opera. But Facebook, forget it!
In past few days I have spent time downloading and trying pretty much every other popular browsers. From Chrome to PaleMoon. I could live with one of them but nothing really compelling for me. They all have already been uninstalled and am done trying. Opera would be surely missed.
I tried to wear a compression shirt for Golf once and it was the worst round of my life. I literally ripped the thing off at the 11th hole.
The thing about compression garments that I learned a good lesson that day is they restrict movement. Reason I guess you don't see any pro golfers use them or NBA players.
Sports like rugby, NFL or basketball are very different to golf. The others involve aerobic/anaerobic fitness and strength components along with their skills. While golf involves a very precise, repeated movement (with some speed/strength component) but almost no opportunity for the speedier removal of lactic acid to help you.
The garment just probably interfered with the swinging of your arms, even if only slightly.
I have been an everyday RSS user for a few years now. Jumped around trying Bloglines, a few desktop clients, Google Reader, some unknown smaller sites, etc over that time. Finally I found my perfect aggregator and have been using it daily for about 8 months now. I even took it upon myself to donate a few bucks to developer.

Only catch is it requires your own host/webserver with PHP/SQL and a quick installation. But well worth it for me as I just dropped it onto one of my websites.
The Best. Been a big fan of Opera browser for a long time now. There was a minor speed bump of bugs when 10.x first came out but starting at 10.10 it has been top notch. Once you learn all of Opera's nuances using any other browser feels outdated and not as well thought out for a user. Speed is right there with Chrome, built in mail/rss and now with the 11.x extensions there is no more excuses to try it.

From what I feel, the average user doesn't spend much time learning a software's nuances. They just want to use the first thing that works in the first go.
The RSS is good, the Opera mail is good... the IRC and bittorrent, on the other hand, are not very good at all, which is sad, because it would be very nice if they were!
The killer feature that kept me using Chrome before was the automatic page translations. There's a nice extension to do that now in Opera too and I am now very very happy with Opera.
Love it now to where other browsers feel boring. Opera takes a bit of commitment in the beginning because it isn't as "popular thing to use" but once you LEARN how humbly powerful it is (browsing speed wise AND feature set), you sort of end up catching yourself going back to it more and more to where you use it for most of the time. Many small features I take for granted now with Opera others don't have or you need some sort of extension to get (or they end up copying later).
Also, the times of running into sites not compatible with Opera are so far and few between now thanks to the growth of browser wars. It happens once in while, sure... It happens in Chrome too. BUT no other browser has a the simple though out ability to right-click the broken webpage and allow you to select to open it in another browser on your system. That to me is "friendly" and shows Opera has a open philosophy.
I have played live medium stakes poker in Vegas for 14 years now. Have witnessed the boom firsthand. Before the poker tv "boom" it used to be sort of embarrassing when family and friends from back home would ask about poker and what not because it always had a negative mystique about it. During the boom everyone was all of a sudden interested and wanted to listen about how exciting it must be. But the boom completely skewed reality and perspectives unlike anything I have ever seen, even compared to the housing boom.
I can't count how many times in past 7 years I'd be at table full of early 20 somethings claiming they are or am thinking about going "pro" (quiting job/college for poker FT). For every Tom Dwan type of story there are probably 1000x the stories similar or WORSE to the Washington Post article. It was never my business so I never made it my biz, but I used to be sad seeing so many talented/bright and charismatic kids be so lost and throwing away years chasing the rush and shot at being famous. Gambling, in any form, takes a very special tough minded character to do in long run since, like matt says, the losing streaks will come. I have told my wife one thing I wish I could erase from my mind would be poker. And I am a long-term winner! It just wears you down and matt mentioning how most can't fathom the emotional swings is true. It becomes worse the more early success one has because the resulting crash will be harder.
The smoke and mirrors of poker created by TV is FAR from real. Away from the lights and camera while they hype most of these guys up is mostly a collection of low lives grinding 60hrs a week on their asses just to pay the bills. Many of the big names the world has come to know have also gone broke at times. Not always because of poker but it just harbors other bad habits.
Anyway, enough of that. I do want to say Matt that during it time I was an avid follower of your blog. I could always tell you were one of the more grounded and mature young players that was having success and always knew you wouldn't let your head get too big. Sorry it took a tragedy of that magnitude to get you out but in the end it was probably best.
