In my experience I get better work output out of claude if I don't constrain its conversational style. I want Claude to stop saying how "absolutely right" I am, or the new hotness "honest take", but I get better code if I let it do that annoying stuff. Yes, that makes me fight ADHD harder.
I'd bet that executive's VR headset is tied to a facebook account and there are logs of everything that was watched and when along with data collected from the device and the environment it was in. The discovery from this lawsuit could be very telling.
The counter argument linked in this posting rings true to me. Use an LLM to surface the meat of an MR, and better software can be produced by involving a human with experience and judgement.
To me pair programming is outdated. I did it for a year, and I understand that it can have some strengths, sometimes for some software. In the LLM age though, I haven't seen it, and don't think we ever will again. The stress, overstimulation, and exhaustion were real costs that the business just does not care about. "You are engineer, you not have feelings, bang keyboard harder with other Engineer."
Well, you asked what's wrong with it, and being entirely unusable on a lot of the target hardware its trying to address sure seems like a problem. I didn't realize I needed to give them money to properly speak true statements.
I don't blame them, it's not like Apple makes it easy for them. They're definitely working hard on the project and I wish them luck. But one can't act like it's actually a viable OS to generally run on M series hardware. It kind of works on a select few models.
Well in GP's posting the system is universally used by Indians, but ends up costing foreigners quite a bit. That's seemingly not a problem that Indians would want to solve.
The biggest externality is the electrical usage. IDK why they keep mentioning water. The AI DCs are driving huge loads to grids, and all ratepayers are being asked to pay for that. IMO if they built a solar + battery farm on grid, paid by AI DCs, there would be no significant hurdles.
I used to think it was just electricity. It could be just electricity, but when they try to divert hundreds of millions of gallons out of water scarce resources like the colorado river[1] in dry, HOT areas where water usage rises -- you can begin to understand why people are irritated. Even if you get promises of using closed systems, corporations are liars.
I think these corporations do a lot of harm to their own arguments.
As someone who lives in the great lakes region, we don't assume that because the resource is large in comparison to a human being that it is an endless resource.
DCs operate at the scale of agriculture, even this one will consume/expel significant resources.
Are they asking for treated water? What's the concentration of residual metals, bromine and salts? Who is monitoring it?
It's inconvenient. Think of it as tech debt. You can either pay it down now, or you pay it down later.
