Pretty sure I've seen you either at B-Sides or Polyglot... Small world...

I'll most likely be at Polyglot. I did a very small part to help organize one of the very early ones.

I'm looking forward to the next one in October.

It can track devices via their Bluetooth radiation. A lot of devices use randomized MAC addresses though, but probably not all.

When you though Ubisoft can't get any worse...

I've gotten very comfortable not owning Ubisoft games[1].

"Ubisoft Exec Says Gamers Need to Get 'Comfortable' Not Owning Their Games"

Nothing makes more comfortable than not playing Ubisoft games.

Apparently so have other gamers considering that Ubisoft's stock price has fallen over 90% in the last five years.

Actually, the intent was to preserve the sense of pride and accomplishment by motivating players to play through their purchases instead of hoarding them indefinitely. You think you want a permanent game library, but you don't. Do you guys not have free time? It shouldn't be that hard to finish a game well within its service life anyways.

What?

I’ve recently re-played games I enjoyed in the 90s.

I listen to my dad’s old vinyl records.

Why the hell should my game purchases evaporate after some arbitrary and unpredictable amount of time?

...I guess this is where one says, "woosh"?

I bought Farcry 3 Blood Dragon some years ago. I seem to recall I had to install some kind of mod otherwise the game would hang on startup or had long delays because the installed version tried to communicate with some long dead Ubisoft gaming service that they'd shut down the servers for years ago. Funny they were still willing to collect the money for the game that they no longer supported.

Half of the plot of Common Side Effects :)

Absolutely brilliant show. Highly recommend it to anyone. Feels like a hyper condensed version of the X-files but with a decent sense of humour to it as well.

Season two will be out next year and I am curious to see how it goes. Towards the end of season one, the side effects were starting to get interesting, possibilities of it turning dark abound.

I'm just glad that after Joe Bennets previous show Scavengers Reign got axed after one season that we will finally get to see some of his stuff expanded.

I thought Common Side Effects was great, then I watched Scavengers Reign. Absolutely mindblown. Possibly the best scifi _thing_ I've ever watched.

There's still hope for a second season FWIW. At least the story is mapped up, if not more preprod stuff, it's been a while since I looked into it.

I found a great sense of unease watching Scavengers Reign. So much so I haven't finished it yet...

Same here. That was definitely a "nuke it from orbit" type planet for me.

Create a holding company and register some trademarked design. Apply said design to the product. License the design to the manufacturer.

When the manufacturer wants to destroy unsold stock - revoke the license to the design. You can now fully legally destroy unsold stock for "violating ip rights"

My first computer was a soviet clone of a ZX Spectrum, which started it all almost 40 years ago...

I think paperless devs are working on AI integration, and there are 3rd party solutions. I'm holding out for an official one, so far.

It's pretty cool, I've set up a share where the scanner scans, and it automatically picks it up from there and ingests it into the system.

They have some `curl | bash` type installation, which doesn't really fit my set-up. They say "email us if you have any questions", so I've emailed several months ago and I'm still waiting for a response.

Amazing. And with SSO out of the box without weird "Oh, SSO is Enterprise only" BS.
