It looks like it's only for old messages. My guess is that what happened is that they migrated some old messages to a new model. Maybe they had a mess of different old models, and some of them where converted to the wrong kind. I guess they were not careful enough with it, I just hope they will be able to revert it...
With any luck they'll start undeleting less-than-charitable picture comments I removed once the subjects of those comments joined Facebook. You know they still have them.
Probably the best solution for them at this point would be something in between, like hiding all friend's post on every user's wall instead of letting every user to that manually.
To me it looks that they were trying to buy some time. Trying to slow down the propagation of the story. But I think by now it's not fixed and it's obvious that it's very real, they will have to find something else...
Not true. This is the source of all the confusion. Originally you couldn't like or comment on wall posts. Conversations were individual posts on each other's walls. You could click the "wall-to-wall" link to view the whole conversation.
This system gave conversations a different feel, and is now causing people to confuse them with private messages.
Same thing here, I'm French and lots of my friends are having the bug as well. Lots of mention in the online newspaper too.
I think once it's obvious that it's real, it's going to be a big deal for Facebook...
Yes, the reason why Angry Bird is not in the top grossing app is because they already dominate the market. This metric is based on the number of new install on the last week or so. The fact that they are still #2 of paid app (also a metric on the last month or so) means that they monetize pretty well with in app purchase already.
""" Then there are the "social games", which to me is really an abuse of the word "game", since they are nothing more (IMHO) than exercises in feeding addiction and inducing compulsive behaviour. There is no element of skill. It's simply who can purchase the most. """
I think you can see that some game especially on mobile are starting to be more social and more skill based, even if the gameplay is asynchronous. I'm thinking about games like Words with Friends or SongPop. Draw Something is also really social but it's cooperative, not competitive.
That's interesting, you are the only one in this thread who is using it.
Could you tell a bit more about for what kind of analytics you are using it ? And why you use BigQuery and not some other analytics solution (Mixpanel, Kontagent, Flurry etc.) for these scenarios ?
Even if it's just people's perception, it actually matters a lot. Facebook need user to trust them on privacy issues, that's their core.
