That's fair enough. The normal on-contract rate is subsidizing the $300+ discount on your phone. If there's no phone to subsidize, it's logical that the subsidy gets bounced back to you.

This may have changed, but that wasn't the case when I bought my G2 and switched to a 500 min/unlimited data plan about a year ago.
